The Research Compendium is an online database of research commissioned by the Highways Agency (HA). Used by transport professionals, students and educational institutions all over the world, the Compendium is managed by the Transport Research Laboratory.
Lucid hosts and supports the system, and develops new functionality on an on-going basis. Our latest development helped the HA Research Team to meet a crucial business objective and comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOI). The team can now:
- Publish and manage their publication scheme and research programme online
- Publish executive summaries of completed research projects
- Rate the research results according to a formal assessment criteria
The solution was developed in two stages. Each focussed on delivering a key business requirement by a crucial deadline. The central challenges of the project were re-engineering the database to accommodate new business rules and providing a user-friendly, efficient administration functionality for non-technical users.
As a result, the web is now the Research Team’s primary way of meeting the FOI Act requirements. It also gives their international audience a wider access to highways-related research on which the Agency spends about £12M a year.
“We employ Lucid Communications as our preferred supplier because they have consistently delivered what we want, when we need it.
