Lucid has developed an interactive training tool for the rail industry to improve safety critical communications. The project was facilitated by the Rail Safety & Standards Board and guided by a cross-industry editorial team. Lucid provided RSSB with a complete creative, technical and project management service, including writing the highly specialist content.

The CD ROM combines video, audio, animation and over 50 interactive exercises to help managers and supervisors across the industry to:

• Train staff in safety critical communication protocols
• Practise assessing staff competence in operational communications
• Refresh and highlight operational communication topics in regular safety briefings

The CD has been a great success in the industry. The first print run ran out in two weeks, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Several companies are taking the CD as a basis for developing their own company-specific training programs for safety critical communications.
