TPWS in Practice, an interactive DVD produced by Lucid, is receiving enthusiastic feedback from the rail industry’s trainers.
The DVD looks at all aspects of the Train Protection and Warning System, a safety system implemented across Britain’s railway. Although the system has been in place since 2002, no comprehensive training tool has ever been produced before. The lack of consistent training across the industry resulted in many drivers and signallers not fully understanding the system and increased the risk of operational errors.
The new DVD provides a comprehensive training package and practical guidance on all aspects of the system: why it was implemented, how it works and how to operate it correctly.
- The DVD is developed in a modular way so that the trainers can pick and choose the sections that are most relevant to their trainees.
- There are separate sections for drivers and signallers that focus on each group’s specific knowledge requirements, but also a whole section of practical scenarios associated with TPWS where drivers and signallers need to work together.
- The DVD also includes four interactive quizzes that help consolidate understanding.
The production of the DVD was facilitated and funded by RSSB. Lucid worked with a large team of rail industry technical experts to ensure accuracy of all content. Filming took place both in signalling and train simulators and on the operational railway.
